Public Affairs and the Chamber
The Chamber works with local, state, and national units of government to assure that the business community has a voice in legislation, regulation, and other policy impacting growth. In addition, the Chamber works in the areas of economic and leadership development to help provide a higher quality of life for our community.
Government Action: The Chamber represents the views of its members with local, state and national elected officials. Issues include taxation policies, health care and health insurance, business regulation, public education, etc.
Community/Economic Development: On a regular basis, the Chamber reviews and discusses initiatives to create economic stability and growth, with an emphasis on jobs, income, and tax base expansion.

Bay Area…on the Go:
An annual event designed to showcase economic development opportunities in the Bay Area and to recognize businesses that have made significant developments. |
Ombudsman Services: On matters of public policy which could impact more than one Chamber member firm, the Chamber will represent a member having difficulty with a governmental agency.
Forums: Opportunities to interact with and learn more about government include the State of the Community Luncheon and Legislative Luncheons.
State Capitol Visit: A lobbying trip to Lansing where Chamber members participate in face-to-face meetings with state legislators and government leaders to present the Chamber’s positions on issues impacting the business community.
Washington Fly-In: A biannual tri-chamber lobbying trip to Washington D.C. to promote major developments in the region and pro-business legislation.
Business-Government Summit: An annual program designed to improve rapport and relationships between business and city, township, and county officials.
Governmental Contacts: Chamber members have access to many area governmental officials through the Chamber’s activities and events.
