Leadership Bay County

Objective:

Leadership Bay County aims to provide the knowledge and motivation needed to lead our community through politics, business and non-profit organizations.

How it Works

Leadership Bay County appeals to people of diverse backgrounds who have an interest in the future of our community. The nine-month curriculum is designed to help participants better understand our community by reviewing its history and examining entities and systems. Speakers from businesses, government, education, law enforcement, natural resources, arts, and human services provide information at each session.

Participants are also challenged to develop leadership skills and contribute to our community by selecting and completing a class project.

Since the program began in 1987, an average of 20 people have attended and graduated from Leadership Bay County each year — and many of these attendees are serving in leadership capacities throughout the community.

CRITERIA

The program has several requirements. Attendance and active participation in the two-day kick-off retreat and at least eight of the nine day-long sessions (one per month) is required, as well as completion of assigned homework.

Leadership Bay County begins each Fall and graduates its participants in late Spring. Application is open to any adult member of the community who is interested in the past, present and future of our community and is looking to become personally involved in leading it.

2012 CLASS PROJECT

The 2012 Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Bay County class is proud to announce this year’s project. The class will be working with the Downtown Management Board staff and Bay County high school students to sponsor “Art S.P.A.R.C.”, a venture that will create historic murals to be placed throughout the downtown area.

The class chose this project as a way to engage area youth in a venture that will enhance the community. The goal is to connect youth to their community as they learn more about our area’s history, all while creating original murals for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come!

Funding for the project comes from a silent auction at the Bay Area Chamber Annual Meeting on Thursday, March 22nd, as well as a grant from the Bay Area Community Foundation. In-kind donations are also accepted for funding (please see the auction item donation form) or additional art supplies to be used towards the creation of the murals. A list of needed supplies can be found on the 2012 Leadership Facebook page, or by contacting Jennifer Grigg at 989-894-8244 or at LeadershipBay12@gmail.com
