CHILDREN COMMEMORATE U.S. ENTRY INTO WW1 - Michigan Society Children of the American Revolution to Unveil Doughboy Statue

Bay City, MI, March 20, 2017– Michigan C.A.R. plan to unveil to the public a restored J. Paulding Doughboy statue on April 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., in Pershing Park, Wenona and Midland Streets, Bay City, MI to remember those who served in “The Great War.”

Madden Brady 15-year-old ninth grader and State President of Michigan C.A.R., is thrilled to announce that the children’s organization fundraising drive for the last eleven months was a success. The funds needed to complete the work for the restoration of the 93-year-old statue was $12,000.00. Current total for the effort is over $13,500.00.

The April 6 event will include an official commemoration ceremony recognizing the day as the centennial of the U.S. entry into WWI. Following the ceremony at the statue, is a WW1 Q&A session in the Sage Library community room.

A collaboration between the Bay County Library System, (BCLS), Venus Bronze Works of Detroit and M.S.C.A.R. made the restoration a reality.

C.A.R., the nation's oldest, largest, patriotic youth organization, offers membership to anyone under the age of 22, lineally descended from someone who rendered material aid to the cause of American Independence as a soldier, sailor, civil officer, or recognized patriot in one of the several Colonies or States, or of the United States. C.A.R. activities focus on patriotism, service, and education about our American heritage.
