9/11 Memorial Event Honoring Those Who Lost Their Lives on September 11, 2001
The Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition, Dow Diamond, and Three Rivers Corporation are hosting an honorary event on Sunday, September 11, 2022, to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11. The free event offers an opportunity for the public to participate in a silent journey of 3,000 steps around Dow Diamond’s concourse in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the towers, planes, Pentagon, and as First Responders. The event starts at 7:59 a.m. on the concourse at Dow Diamond, 825 E. Main, Midland, MI. Several honorary time dedications will be done throughout the event. The start time matches the time when American Airlines Flight 11 took its departure from Boston Logan International Airport bound for Los Angeles International Airport. At 10:28 a.m., the song “Taps” will be played recognizing the time when the North Tower collapsed. The event will conclude with participants exiting under the Garrison Flag. A course map and more information will be passed out at the event start. We respectfully ask for people walking the course to remain silent. Anyone wishing to participate by observing and sharing in the peaceful harmony of the event, may do so from the concourse seating or lawn area. The names of all who perished will be prominently displayed during the event as well as event sponsors. Sponsorships are available through August 20th with proceeds supporting disaster relief funds in the region. Those wishing to donate to the Great Lake Bay Veterans Coalition directly may do so at: https://www.midlandfoundation.org/fund/glbveteranscoalitionendowment/ Special thanks to our volunteers and support team, including the local Scouts and Color Guards. The media is invited, and pre-event interviews are available through Brad Blanchard. Please note: Those with medical conditions in attendance should plan accordingly as a loud noise from a small cannon will be fired six times during the event to ring alert of when tragedy hit long ago, and no food will be available at the venue. Service dogs are welcome.
