After 85 years, Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union to become Dow Credit Union
Name simplification intended to honor credit union’s history and energize its future

MIDLAND, MICHIGAN, JUNE 1, 2022 –  Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union (dcecu.org) has announced plans to simplify its name to Dow Credit Union.

After its founding in 1937, DCECU initially only served employees of Dow and Dow Corning. Then, over the years, membership eligibility evolved to include many other companies’ employees and retirees and their family members, as well as members of other organizations.

“Simplifying and streamlining our name to Dow Credit Union makes sense for us as we celebrate our heritage and ongoing service to Dow while recognizing the broader base of our membership and our growing role in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan,” said DCECU Chief Executive Officer Michael Goad. “We look forward to using this name change and brand refresh as an opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to the members and communities we serve.”

DCECU has been a perennial national leader in financial rewards for members, and the expanded membership base has helped fuel that continued performance. The credit union paid Member Giveback rebates and rewards totaling more than $13 million for 2021 and has returned more than $261 million to its members since 1980. In early 2022, Credit Union National Association (CUNA) once again named DCECU as one of the top credit unions in the country for delivering member value.

“When we began discussing the possibility of a name change, one thing was clear: We wanted that name to celebrate our history and ties to the community while simultaneously clarifying that membership is open to a broader population than it was back in 1937,” said DCECU Board of Directors Chair Perry Holmon. “Ultimately, we determined that simplifying our longstanding name would accomplish both goals and help bring a new energy as we serve our existing members and welcome new ones.”

DCECU Board of Directors member and past chair Mark Bachman noted that the name change comes as both Dow and the credit union celebrate notable milestones.

“It is a significant anniversary year for both Dow and DCECU: Dow is marking 125 years in business in 2022, and DCECU is celebrating 85 years of service to member-owners,” he said. “This is a great time to reveal a new name, new logo and refreshed look for the credit union.”
