Saginaw, MI – The Great Lakes Bay Manufacturers Association (GLBMA) is pleased to announce their Young Mfg Mentor program.  This program is designed to encourage students 16 to 25 years old to engage in the manufacturing community.  The program is part of the Great Lakes Bay Manufacturers Association initiative to educate and keep today’s youth in the region.

The mentee’s application period opens April 20, 2022 and is available to area youth attending high school or a regional college.  Mentees should have some interest in manufacturing and exploring what is available in the Great Lakes Bay Region.  Delta College Skilled Trade Program is sponsoring the first 25 students that enroll. This will cover the cost for them to attend programs planning in the program.

“This program is an exciting new chapter for the GLBMA in hopes that we can retain talent in the region and get the youth excited about manufacturing,” said Andy Stewart, current GLBMA President.

Applications for the mentees are available on the GLBMA website – glbma.org/young-mfg-mentors.  In addition, the area Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers are being provided the links to sign up as well.

The Great Lakes Bay Manufactures Association (GLBMA) got started in 1912 as a land bank to bring manufacturing to the region as the sawmills were running out of lumber and moving from the area.  Today the GLBMA stands as the voice of manufacturing in the region and educating the youth about manufacturing.
