McLaren “Barks and Brews” Event to Support Hospice Patients and their Pets

Bay City, Mich. – On Tuesday, September 13, at the DryDock in downtown Bay City, McLaren Hospice is hosting an event to support its patients and their pets. “Barks and Brews,” a strolling beverage and dining event, will raise funds to support McLaren Hospice’s Pet Peace of Mind program which helps patients and families care for their beloved pets at a time when they are least able to provide for them.

“When it comes to health and well-being, pets are important members of our families, and being unable to care for those pets can cause stress and heartache for hospice patients,” said Karynn Carrell, manager of volunteer services at McLaren Health Management Group. “Our Pet Peace of Mind program is an important supplemental service for our patients and their families that allows them to focus on the patient going through a very difficult time.” McLaren's Pet Peace of Mind program, administered by McLaren Hospice Volunteers, fosters the emotional and spiritual connection pets provide for patients throughout their lives. Volunteers assist by keeping food and water available, providing adequate exercise through play and walks, picking up yard waste and cleaning litter boxes, ensuring the pet has assess to routine vaccinations and medications if necessary, and more.

Barks and Brews will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, September 13 at the DryDock at 113 Center Ave., Bay City. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy food truck selections with beer and wine pairings while participating in a fundraising raffle and socializing with McLaren Hospice Volunteers—both human and canine. Each ticket includes a food truck voucher and two beverage vouchers. Tickets are $25 at the door or $30 in advance. For tickets, or sponsorship information, visit www.mclaren.org/barksandbrews. Barks and Brews and McLaren Hospice are thankful for the support of sponsors United Bay Community Credit Union, Bayshores Senior Care and Rehab Center, UAW Local 362, The Ramsey Group, McLaren Bay Region, Team One Credit Union, Governor's Quarters, and F.P. Horak.
