    MIDLAND, Mich. – MyMichigan Health welcomes experienced Interventional Cardiologist Stephen Mattichak, M.D., to its comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, heart failure and structural heart specialists, as well as vascular and cardiovascular surgeons.
     
    As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Mattichak works with patients who have cardiac-related conditions such as coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, valvular and structural heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, congenital heart defects and other complex cardiac conditions.
     
    He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Dr. Mattichak went on to complete fellowships in adult clinical cardiology and interventional cardiology at William Beaumont Hospital. “I credit my career path to a strong affinity to science and biology (STEM) growing up in Plainwell, Michigan and during my studies at Albion College,” he said. “I always envisioned a career in medicine and was fortunate to have strong cardiology mentorships at Wayne State and Emory University.”
     
    According to Dr. Mattichak, aside from performing coronary and endovascular interventions, the most important interventions include treatment of chronic disease states, education, and communication. “I take satisfaction in knowing that I’m helping patients improve their overall quality of life by finding relief from their symptoms,” he said. “I have practiced in the Great Lakes Bay Area for more than 15 years and enjoy long-standing physician-patient relationships focused not only on acute cardiology problems, but also health and well-being, and prevention.”
