Open House & Ribbon Cutting Event for 101 E. Main Street at Uptown Bay City

Bay City, Mich.- March 9, 2020 – An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11am on Friday March 13, 2020 to celebrate the opening of the new $8.6 million, three-story mixed-use building located at 101 E. Main Street on the corner of East Main and Saginaw Streets, across from the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA.

The building features office and retail uses on the first floor, and thirty residential apartments on floors two and three.  The first floor consists of 19,000 square feet of commercial space and is the home of Bay Area Endodontics, LeBourdais Orthodontics, Mid-Michigan Periodontics & Dental Implants and Tri-City Kids Pediatric Dentistry with an additional space available for lease.

This new building further develops the award winning 43-acre waterfront & new urbanist inspired neighborhood that has proven to be a very successful addition to Bay City.  Uptown Bay City is home to Dow Chemical, Chemical Bank, McLaren Bay Region, Michigan Sugar Company, Raymond James, CMU RC, Uptown Grill, the Real Seafood Company, a Marriott Courtyard Hotel, Don Angelo’s Aveda Salon, and many other fine independent retailers and small businesses.

The new building features 30 new one- and two-bedroom apartments appointed with stainless appliances, and granite countertops.  One-bedroom units are approximately 900 square feet, and two-bedroom units approximately 1,100 square feet.  Rental rates start at $975 per month for one-bedroom units and $1,150 per month for two-bedroom units. Residents have been moving in since December and the building is now close to full occupancy.

The 101 E. Main Street development promotes walkability, supports residential living in downtown, increases the local tax-base, and aligns with the City of Bay City’s identified housing priorities.

“We are very excited to see more residents moving back to the Downtown area and this speaks very highly of the outstanding quality of life and vibrancy that Downtown Bay City has to offer” says Pete Shaheen, Vice President of Shaheen Development, Uptown Bay City’s developer.

Residents enjoy easy access to the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA, the Riverwalk, shops, restaurants, parks, and festivals.

This past summer, Uptown Bay City was also awarded with the Community Excellence Award (CEA)—the most prestigious Michigan Municipal League honor.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation supported the project with a $575,000 Michigan Community Revitalization Program performance-based grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund and the project was financed locally by Isabella Bank.

“The 101 E. Main Street development epitomizes MEDC’s commitment to transforming underutilized properties into vibrant, attractive and resilient places for community members and visitors alike to enjoy,” said MEDC Sr. Vice President of Community Development Michele Wildman. “We’re pleased to work with the many partners who brought this project to fruition, and we look forward to its momentum and the additional investment it will encourage in downtown Bay City.”

Following the ribbon cutting event the first-floor businesses will open their doors to the community and will be highlighting their beautiful new spaces to the attendees. Representative from Shaheen Development will also be on hand to show off the apartment model unit.
