Orthopedic Surgeon Joins Comprehensive Musculoskeletal Team

MIDLAND, Mich. – Orthopedic Surgeon James Lewis, D.O., recently joined MidMichigan Health as the newest member of MidMichigan’s comprehensive musculoskeletal team. Dr. Lewis specializes in both general pediatric and adult orthopedics and is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of injuries, disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves and tendons.

His office is located in the Midland Professional Suites building, located at 555 West Wackerly Street, Suite 2600. There he joins Orthopedic Surgeons Ben Mayne, III, M.D., David Bortel, M.D., and Advanced Practice Provider Blaine Price, P.A.-C.

Dr. Lewis earned his medical degree from Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Garden City Hospital.

“Orthopedic surgery is a very hands-on specialty that gives me the unique opportunity to provide patient care on multiple levels,” he said. “Growing up around my family’s collision repair and hot rod business gave me the opportunity to not only learn how to enjoy working with my hands and fixing things, but also building and fostering strong relationships with customers.”

When it comes to patient care, Dr. Lewis believes in the importance of establishing relationships based on open communication. “One of my goals is to offer a welcoming environment for my patients and their family members,” he said. “The most satisfying aspects of my job are making sure that my patients have a comprehensive understanding of their medical needs and utilizing my years of training to provide them with great results.”

Special interests for Dr. Lewis include total joint replacements and general orthopedics. He treats a wide range of conditions, including arthritis; dislocations, fractures, sprains and strains; muscle, ligament and tendon damage; as well as osteoporosis.
