SVSU appreciates state approval for renovation of Brown Hall

Saginaw Valley State University will quickly move forward with plans to renovate Brown Hall, after the project received approval and funding in the State of Michigan budget for the 2023 fiscal year.

“Renovating Brown Hall has been our No. 1 building priority for several years, and we are eager to proceed,” said Donald Bachand, SVSU president. “Brown Hall hosts classrooms and faculty offices for a number of academic departments, and it also is home to our psychology labs. Given the growing need for mental health professionals, improvements to this facility are most timely as we work to meet the talent needs of our region and state.

“We appreciate the support we received from Governor Whitmer and from the Legislature, especially state senators Ken Horn and Jim Stamas.”

Brown Hall was originally constructed in 1986. The three-story structure sustained significant damage during a fire in March 2019.

SVSU plans a $28.8 million renovation of Brown Hall. The State of Michigan has appropriated $21.8 million toward the project; SVSU will provide $7 million in funding. Work will proceed as soon as possible.
