Second Saturday: "Frankie Lymon's Tombstone Blues" with Gary Johnson
Hear the fascinating story of the rise and fall of Frankie Lymon, the first teenage rock and roll idol, and his 1956 hit "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" His rollercoaster career ended just 12 years later, the result of a drug overdose. He was buried in an unmarked grave until the 20th anniversary of his death, when a tombstone was constructed by a group of doo wap enthusiasts. It was prevented from being placed on his unmarked grave by a famous court case that determined which of the three women he had married--but never divorced-- was the rightful widow and heir to his songwriting fortune. The presentation will reveal what happened to Frankie Lymon's original tombstone, and how it was acquired by the Historical Museum of Bay County.
