General Manager – Saginaw Bay Yacht Club

JOB SUMMARY
The General Manager of SBYC is a strategic business leader who is responsible for managing all aspects of day-to-day operations of one of Michigan’s oldest and most prestigious yacht clubs. This role ensures the delivery of exceptional member experiences through dining, marina, event, and facility experiences, while preserving the club’s rich tradition of yachting excellence and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
• Member Services: Foster a warm, welcoming environment for boating and non-boating members, ensuring personalized service and satisfaction, maintaining a high standard of excellence while facilitating the goals and strategies of the Board of Directors.

• Operations Oversight: Coordinates and administers the Club's By-Laws, Club Rules and Dock Rules. Develops and maintains operating policies and procedures governing clubhouse. Dining, Marina, Gardens, and seasonal programming. Coordinate independently or with the club committees to plan and execute special events, private parties, and club functions.

•  Staff Leadership: Hire, train, and supervise staff across hospitality and grounds maintenance, adhering to a people-first culture. Supervise and develop the service team to ensure excellence in hospitality and service delivery.

• Financial Stewardship: Implements and monitors the budget, balances cost of quality products and services, with maximum member and guest satisfaction.

• Governance Support: Collaborate with the Board of Directors and committees to align operations with strategic goals, secure club assets, and achieve annual performance goals.

• Facility and Grounds Management: Maintain the club’s extensive gardens, docks, and panoramic waterfront views to uphold its “up-north closer to home” appeal.

DAY-TO-DAY
• Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, while complying with legal regulations.

• Manages club financial objectives by forecasting requirements, scheduling expenditures, analyzing cost/margin variances and initiating corrective action plans. 

• Recruits, selects, and develops talent while maintaining a positive and inclusive work environment.

•Implement general policies established by the Board of Directors; directs policy administration and execution.

•Trains and monitors employees while evaluating performance and productivity, seeking constant improvement of hospitality services.

•Actively markets club memberships and provides exceptional member services.

•Ensure member and guest feedback is handled promptly and professionally.

ABOUT YOU
• 5 + years in Club Management or related field (preferred)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management or Business Admin (preferred)
• CMAA certification or Food Management Professional certification (preferred)
• Strong written and oral Communication Skills
• Exceptional leadership skills - Self-motivated, strategic thinker, positive attitude
• Adaptable to change – can solve problems through an open-minded and all-inclusive approach
• Comfortable in a fast-paced or high-expectation environment
• Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with POS, Microsoft Office products, Quickbooks, and social media

COMPENSATION
• Salary up to $55,000 base (commensurate with experience) + bonus & club perks

With our membership over 220, the Club has a welcoming cross section of members.
