BAY AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LEADERSHIP BAY COUNTY CLASS OF 2025 ANNOUNCES CLASS PROJECT
BAY CITY, MI – The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Bay County Class of 2025 proudly announces its collaboration with the Bay City Downtown Development Authority (DDA) on an impactful tree-planting project aimed at enhancing the community’s economic vitality, placemaking appeal, and environmental sustainability. Set to begin in spring 2025, this initiative will involve planting Armstrong Maple trees in key downtown locations, contributing to the beautification of Bay City while addressing long-term environmental and social benefits.
This project will fill 19 currently vacant spots and revitalize Downtown Bay City's vibrant cityscape. "This year’s Leadership Class felt that the Downtown Development Authority’s proposal for the addition of trees in the City of Bay City DDA district will be a long-lasting, impactful mark on the City that we all love" said Tara Marczak, this year's class Project Manager. "We share a common goal to make a lasting mark on our community that community members and visitors can enjoy for generations to come."
The project will include fundraising, removing old stumps, preparing planting sites, and coordinating the planting of 50 trees. The effort will begin in early spring and aims for completion by June 2025 to coincide with the class's graduation.
This initiative highlights the strong partnership between the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and local organizations to address unmet community needs and aligns with Downtown Bay City's mission to create an exceptional historic riverfront experience while fostering a welcoming environment for residents and visitors. This effort will not only beautify the downtown area but also provide environmental benefits, including improved air quality and shade for pedestrians. Armstrong Maples, known for their urban-friendly characteristics, will be planted to ensure long-term sustainability and minimal maintenance. "By choosing a project that enhances the beauty and sustainability of Downtown Bay City, this year's Leadership Bay County participants are not only contributing to our community’s visual appeal, but also laying the groundwork for a stronger, more vibrant future for all who live, work, and play here" said Magen Samyn, President & CEO of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Leadership Bay County Class of 2025 aims to raise up to $25,000 to bring this initiative to life. Downtown Development Authority has committed to matching these funds, doubling the impact, and ensuring the project’s success.
