BAY AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOUNDATION TO HOST

REGIONAL NATIONAL CIVICS BEE ON APRIL 23

BAY CITY, MI – The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation is proud to announce the 2026 National Civics Bee Regional Competition, taking place on April 23 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at Saginaw Valley State University. This year’s regional event is hosted in collaboration with the Midland Business Alliance, Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce, and Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce.

The Regional Bee will feature the top middle school student finalists from across the Great Lakes Bay Region, selected for their outstanding essay submissions. These students will compete in a fast-paced, live competition designed to test their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, government, and civic responsibilities.

More than a competition, the National Civics Bee is a celebration of civic learning and leadership. The top three students from our regional event will advance to the state-level competition, with the opportunity to compete nationally. One student from each state will ultimately advance to the National Championship, where the top winner will receive a $100,000 529 college savings plan.

“We are incredibly proud to bring our region together around something as important as civic education,” said Magen Samyn, President & CEO of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. “The National Civics Bee challenges students not just to learn how government works, but to think critically about how they can contribute to their communities. It’s inspiring to see young leaders step up with confidence, curiosity, and a real commitment to making a difference.”

This year’s event is made possible through the generous support of Bangor Township Schools, Presenting Sponsor, and Saginaw Valley State University, Host Sponsor.

Families, educators, business leaders, and community members are invited to attend and cheer on these exceptional students as they showcase their knowledge and passion for civics.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Please contact jodi@baycityarea.com to learn more.
